Paper and puzzles: Mod Podge decoupage glue mixed thin

Mod Podge decoupage glue and sealer mixed thin for paper, tissue, napkins and a finished jigsaw puzzle.

Thin paper and printed card are the fussiest things to decoupage: too much medium and they wrinkle, too little and the edges lift. These formulas are mixed thinner and are acid-free where it matters, so a photograph does not go brown on you.

Puzzle Saver is the odd one here — it is made to soak down between pieces and lock a finished jigsaw flat so it can go on a wall. Hard Coat and Diamond Top Coat are the tougher end of the same shelf.

Everything we bottle on this shelf

Not sure this is your shelf? Our surface chart, written out walks through which of our formulas we have tested on which material, and the other eleven shelves are one click away.

Mod Podge decoupage glue mixed thin, for paper that wrinkles

Thin paper is the fussiest thing to decoupage. Too much medium and the sheet swells, buckles and dries with ridges; too little and the edges lift a week later. The formulas on this shelf are mixed thinner than our standard decoupage glue so they soak in evenly and give you time to smooth the sheet before anything sets.

They are acid free, which matters more than it sounds. A photograph or a piece of keepsake paper sealed under an acidic medium goes brown at the edges within a few years. Acid free is what lets us call this preserving rather than decorating.

Puzzle Saver is the specialist here and it does one job properly: it soaks down between the pieces of a finished jigsaw and locks them to each other without warping the card. Work on the front, let it dry flat, and the puzzle comes off the table in one piece and goes on a wall.

What this shelf is for:

  • finished jigsaw puzzles you want to hang
  • photographs, certificates and keepsake paper
  • scrapbook pages, journals and paper collage
  • tissue paper and napkin decoupage on card
  • paper art that will be framed rather than handled

Questions we get about this shelf

Why does my paper wrinkle?

Almost always too much medium at once. Brush a thin coat, lay the paper, then press from the centre outwards so the air and the surplus have somewhere to go. Build the thickness in layers, not in one wet pass.

Will this yellow my photographs?

The acid free formulas on this shelf are the ones we use on anything we care about keeping. They dry clear and stay clear.

Can I use Puzzle Saver on ordinary paper?

You can, but it is not what it is for. It is mixed to run between puzzle pieces. On a flat sheet our matte or gloss will give you a nicer finish.
