Stiffy Fabric Stiffener, Clear
From our line
Mod Podge decoupage glue and sealer that dries flexible — for fabric, clothing, canvas and painted furniture.
Two jobs that pull in opposite directions share this shelf. Fabric formulas keep the cured film soft so cloth still moves and launders; Stiffy does the reverse and sets fabric rigid for bows, baskets and ornaments.
Furniture is the hard-wearing end: a tabletop or a dresser gets handled every day, so it wants a tougher film than a shelf piece ever will.

Not sure this is your shelf? Our surface chart, written out walks through which of our formulas we have tested on which material, and the other eleven shelves are one click away.
Fabric moves and ordinary decoupage glue does not. The formulas here are built around that: the cured film stays flexible, so a decorated tote bag, cushion or piece of clothing still drapes and folds without the design cracking along the creases.
The fabric medium is the one for appliques and for anything that will be laundered. Press the piece down, seal it, and let it cure fully before the first wash. Stiffy does the opposite job: it sets fabric, lace and trim rigid so a bow, a basket or a hanging ornament holds the shape you gave it.
On furniture the limit is not the medium, it is the preparation. Sand the surface, clean off the dust, and if the piece is already painted make sure the paint is sound. A beautiful decoupage finish on flaking paint comes away with the paint.
Projects we reach for these for:
The fabric formulas are made for it, once the piece has cured. Turn it inside out, wash cool and let it dry flat. Do not put a project through a wash in its first week.
The fabric medium does. Stiffy is the opposite by design — it is there when you want the textile to hold a shape.
A light sand and a clean cloth. You are not stripping the piece, you are giving the first coat something to grip.
